Thirteen sanctuary

Braj bhoomi (land of eternal love) is located 58 km northwest of Agra, around Mathura.Until it was rediscovered that it existed in the real world, it was a fictitious land that existed only in the collective consciousness of Hindus.

Mathura is believed to be the birthplace of Krishna, as described in ancient Hindu literature. Krishna later revealed that he was an incarnation of the god Vicine.

It's hard to imagine today, but Mathura was originally the center of Buddhist training. There were times when as many as 3,000 monks rushed to 20 Buddhist monasteries, but in the 8th century, when Hinduism ousted Buddhism throughout northern India, the city began to decline.

In 1017, Afghan general Ghazni destroyed most of the Buddhist and Hindu temples and completed the conquest.

In the 16th century, Hindu scholars confirmed that Mathura was the birthplace of Krishna, and the city's reconstruction began. However, the activity was plucked out of the buds when Aurangzeb destroyed the Kesava Deo Temple. This temple is said to be the place where Krishna was actually born. Aurangzeb built a mosque on the site of this temple.

In 1757 Mathura was burned down by King Abdali of Afghanistan. However, Mathura, which has an important religious tradition, has recovered and is today a religious center crowded with many people. At the festival of Janmastami (Krishna's birthday) from August to September, Mathura is almost stuck.

The Dwarkadheesh Temple is totally decorated and is visited by thousands of pilgrims and Sadhus (Hindu practitioners) to thank Krishna for their birth.
