Second sanctuary

Rajgir, which means "Rajagir", is located 12km south of Patna and is a very sacred and important place for Buddhists. Buddha spent 12 years here.It is now an Indian resort known to those in the know, and in winter everyone is drawn to the hot springs and healthy climate. Mt. Glidakuta (Vulture Peak) is the place where Buddha gave a lot of preaching, and the teaching was first recorded in writing.You can climb the mountaintop with the pagoda built by the Japanese by ropeway.

TThere are many historically and archaeologically important places scattered around the sacred site of Rajgir.Bimbisara Prison is the place chosen by the Buddhist Maurya devoted king Bimbisara (5th and 6th centuries BC) to live his old age. From this place, the king is said to have seen Buddha climbing Mount Gliddakuta to enter meditation.

Mt. Glidakuta (Mt. Vulture Peak)

Hot spring bathing pond

However, there are times when there are no people at all, and it is relatively free around 15:00 to 16:00. Whether you can take a bath comfortably depends on your luck. The atmosphere is nice at night when the stars are out.There is a self-proclaimed Sadhu (monk), and when he is exposed to hot spring water, he is begged for Baksheesh.The guests are full of Indians (= a few sacred pilgrims + locals), and there are no Westerners.

At the hot spring bathing pond, there is a caretaker, Ochan, who warns children who make a fuss and lewd Indian men who give a little bit to women. When there are many female customers, they give priority to bathing.

Other attractions

There are Ajaturu Castle, it has also become sculpture depicting Buddha of dying (or Dai般Nirvana) artistic, and historically significant ruins.The figure of Buddha lying with his right side down and his head on his right forearm is reminiscent of the final liberation of the great Buddhist founder.

The healing hot springs of Saptoudara, the Venevan monastery built by King Bimbisara for Buddha, the mango orchard of Jibaka, an avid disciple and surgeon of Buddha, and the caranda that Buddha bathed in. There is also a pond.

The first Buddhist council was convened in the cave of Sapdapal here after the Buddha's general Nirvana.Patna is 102 km from Rajgir and Gaya is 34 km from Rajgir.
